Well, Month One IS actually happenING!
After weeks of talking about it, designing things, changing our minds, changing them back again and generally trying to work out exactly what the Libby & Alice Mail Club should be, our first month came together.
And we are so excited about it.
For our very first month, we chose the beautiful roses of Pierre-Joseph Redouté. If you’ve been following us for a while, this probably isn’t much of a surprise. We absolutely love his roses — the pinks, creams, reds, slightly faded colours and all those gorgeous botanical details.
They felt like the perfect place to start.
So, what’s actually inside?
The idea behind the Mail Club was never to send a pile of things just for the sake of it. We wanted each envelope to feel like something you would genuinely be excited to find in your letterbox.
Inside Month One you’ll find beautiful Redouté-inspired botanical paper pieces, postcards and things to cut out, keep, stick in a journal or use in a scrapbook.
There’s also our little fortune teller to make — a bit of nostalgia that Alice and I loved. We wanted to include things that give you an excuse to actually sit down, get the scissors out and make something again.
You absolutely do not need to be “good at crafts”. In fact, that’s really not the point.
Cut things up. Stick them somewhere. Send a postcard to a friend. Pin a rose above your desk. Add something to a journal. Or just keep everything because it looks pretty!
Why roses?
There is something wonderful about looking closely at old botanical art.
Redouté was painting flowers more than 200 years ago, and yet his roses still feel incredibly beautiful today. That is one of the things Alice and I want to explore through the club — artists, flowers, colour, nature and all the lovely stories that sit behind them.
And every month will be different.
Month One is all about roses. Month Two takes us somewhere completely new, into the wildflowers of North America with the incredible work of Mary Vaux Walcott.
And really, it’s about the post 💌
Alice and I used to send postcards to each other, and somewhere along the way we realised how much we missed that.
Not an email. Not a notification. Not another thing appearing on a screen.
Actual post.
Something somebody has made, put into an envelope and sent out into the world.
That’s really where Libby & Alice came from.
Month One may be our first attempt at getting all of this together, but that almost makes it more special. It’s the beginning of something we’ve talked about for ages, and we honestly can’t wait to see where it goes.
